Future Plans |
After many meetings and conversations the Cherry Creek Fire Dept. and Cherry
Creek Water Board have come to the conclusion that the present day building
does not meet current needs or standards. The Water Board and Fire Dept.
have decided to look at what other options where available.

Artists conception of new fire Hall for Cherry Creek Fire Department
|
|
A review was conducted by a local engineering firm in 2004 to establish the
current state of existing hall. The report came back with two recommendations:
|
1
|
Retrofit the building and bring it up to today’s standards.
|
a)
|
The hall poses a significant risk to its occupants during a seismic event.
|
b)
|
The mechanical components of the hall are starting to fail.
|
c)
|
The electrical service is inadequate
|
|
|
2
|
Construct a new hall.

After looking at both options it was decided that if the hall was brought
up to current standards it would be too small to meet the communities’ needs.
In addition, retrofitting the existing hall would present operating conditions
during construction that would be unrealistic to operate under.
It was decided that building a new hall would be the most feasible solution.
Several locations were looked at, in order to decide the most appropriate
site. The hall had to be central enough to provide adequate response time
to all parts of the Cherry Creek Community and then the Alberni Valley. Time
travel studies where done in order to determine this. Visibility to oncoming
motorists when leaving the hall was also taken into consideration particularly
when departing during an emergency call.
In order to be cost effective it was decided that the Fire Hall and the Water
Board would occupy the same building. After deciding what rooms where needed
an architect was contracted to put the design on paper. The initial drawings
underwent many revisions before a final floor plan was decided on. A conceptual
drawing of the building was also done.
